Kumiko Kato, Evelyn Balestra and Hope Petrozzi representing Orange County Reggio Roundtable (OCRRT) participated as presenters at Orange County Department of Education 2023 Early Learning Summer Institute. The event hosted at the Hilton Orange County Hotel in Costa Mesa. The date was June 21, 2023. This was a great opportunity to connect with other educators in early childhood field in Orange County. The theme of this professional development day - “Every Child, Every Moment”. It was a full house over 200 educators around Orange County. Title of presentation: “How the 100 Languages Supports Children’s Development”. The presentation shares the Reggio philosophy, “100 languages” is the key component in which a variety of materials and mediums are used to support children learning social feelings, movement, music, literacy, math, and science. The presentation was a hands-on experience for the participants to explore different types of paper materials, challenge to connect with new people and build a paper structure. The power point presentation provided slides on variety of provocations in the classroom - how the environment and materials support children’s learning in diverse ways and how it connects learning to “A Developmental Continuum from Early Infancy to Kindergarten Entry” (DRDP). We enjoyed presenting and meeting fellow educators in the field.
