This time, the workshop was held at the reInterpret http://reinterpret.org/ where you have access to many donated material (You need to have a membership in order to get material if you want to use at school).
We had the opportunity to join a group to experiment the setup provocation( ex. How could these materials work in an outdoor environment? How can you create the space reflecting your relationship with the materials? Are children capable of using these materials? How will you enable them...) and then share it with the rest. Then we were assigned to look around other groups' experience and create documentation from that. This was actually challenging as we were trying to imagine what experience the another group did without us being present at the moment. But at that same time this gave us a great practice of thinking outside the box and figuring out what else we can do when we have limited information. How can we create learning visible with few evidence? What ways can others capture children's learning? How can we highlight the children's process? What will you do if you are in this situation? Please feel free to share your comments! -K There are several workshops during fall. If you are interested, here are the links. We had a great discussion about The Twelve Best Practices for Early Childhood Education by Ann Lewin-Benham. Many teachers shared their experience about the transformation through Reggio Emilia Approach. It was also great to see new faces! We wonder how we can expand our dialogue for next time. We look forward to continuing the rest of chapters discussion on Wednesday, November 18th!
I had an opportunity to go to SD Reggio Round Table discussion. It was great inspiration to hear others in a such a lovely place. -Kumiko
